Last night, I received this email from a resident on the west side of White Rock Lake. Please share this scam with her friends and neighbors. This individual need to be caught.
Earlier this evening I received a call from a woman claiming to be from TXU, saying they had not received my last payment and they were going to shut my power off in 15 minutes. I explained that was not possible as I am set up for automatic bill pay. She continued to claim they had not received my payment. She said my only option to keep my power on was to go to CVS or Walgreens and buy a PayPal card for an amount (not the correct amount by the way, but she said that included late fees). She gave me her name and a phone number to call her back after I purchased the card. She did not ask me for any information, and when I asked her if she could confirm my account number she could not – she said the computer system had red-flagged my account and so she could not get back into it. We hung up, I called TXU, which confirmed they had received my last payment. The whole thing sounded fishy, but since the woman did not ask for any personal information it was somewhat more plausible than some other scams. I'd hate for anyone to fall for it.
