Health and Safety Fairs

The Ferguson Road Initiative is a regular participant in area Health and Safety Fairs sponsored by community organizations and the Dallas Police Department. Working to help communicate social services, public safety and crime prevention tips all contribute to building better communities.

Blood Drive

In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a critical shortage of blood in supply in the Dallas/Ft. Worth areas. FRI launched a blood drive in partnership with Carter BloodCare that has become an annual event.

Addressing COVID-19

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, FRI was asked to help marshal community resource information into a convenient one-page bilingual Resource Directory. We also took the lead in helping to manage and coordinate communication between our Far East Dallas emergency service providers who offer rental aid, food, clothing, financial, diaper distribution, and healthcare resources to our community.

Partnering with a national PSA program, Resist COVID/Take 6!, we distributed hundreds of postcards, buttons, flyers, posters, and yard signs, in a coordinated effort to communicate to our most vulnerable populations (Brown, Black and Native American) on how to remain safe during the COVID-19 crisis.

In May 2021, FRI was awarded a Vaccine Hesitancy grant to continue this communication effort with an emphasis on the importance of getting vaccinated. In addition to this community-wide communication campaign, we also are partnering with vaccine providers who are bringing the vaccine directly to where people live and work. Our relationships, and the trust FRI has established with the community, are helping to facilitate pop-up vaccine clinics throughout Far East Dallas.
